Edmonton Oilers Defeat Dallas Stars in Game 5

Oilers Take 3-2 Series Lead

The Edmonton Oilers moved one step closer to the second round of the Western Conference playoffs on Tuesday night, defeating the Dallas Stars 3-1 in Game 5 at Rogers Place. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins led the way for the Oilers with a pair of goals, while Stuart Skinner was near flawless in net, making 36 saves for the victory.

After a scoreless first period, Nugent-Hopkins opened the scoring for the Oilers just 1:42 into the second period. He would extend the Oilers’ lead to 2-0 later in the period with his second goal of the game.

The Stars cut the Oilers’ lead to 2-1 early in the third period on a goal by Nick Bjugstad, but that was as close as they would come. Zach Hyman scored the eventual game-winning goal for the Oilers with just over six minutes remaining in the third period.

With the win, the Oilers now lead the series 3-2 and can eliminate the Stars with a victory in Game 6 on Thursday night in Dallas.
